International Falsely Accused Day Observances Held in 68 Cities in 15 Countries

September 16, 2026 – Organizers counted 15 countries and 68 cities observing International Falsely Accused Day on September 9. (1) Lyn Crabtree founded the day in Britain in 2020, after a police raid on her home, repeated arrests, and an exoneration with no apology. (2)

The organizations behind the day want the same remedy: criminal penalties for deliberate false accusers. (3) They say a deliberately false accusation separates families, cuts children off from good parents, costs jobs, and inflicts psychological harm even before a court rules on the merits. (4)

In Tijuana, Mexico, the Soy Papá No Criminal group said some members pleaded guilty simply to avoid jail and return to family court. (5) In Culiacán, Luis Gerardo Peraza Jiménez, cleared after nine months, now sees his daughter one hour a week. (6) In Argentina, Andrea Guacci of the Argentine Women’s Front Against False Accusations said the movement does not question that real victims exist. (3) A false accusation, she said, “takes immediate and urgent attention away from a real victim.” (4)

Country by country:

  • Argentina: Guacci reported the mobilization reached 14 provinces and more than 20 cities. (4) Campaigners marched in Salta, and Justicia para Matías posted from the National Congress steps in Buenos Aires as that rally ran. (7)(8) Rallies were called in Córdoba, Mendoza, Tucumán, Rosario and Rafaela. (3)
  • Chile: Padres Con Derecho Chile called a midday assembly at Alameda con Paseo Ahumada in Santiago. (9) Its Aysén chapter marched and posted its own photographs under the movement’s #9S banner. (10)
  • Mexico: Fathers and their supporters demonstrated in Tijuana, Saltillo, Hermosillo, Culiacán and Pachuca, each cited in local news reports naming the day. (5)(11)(12)(6)(13) Three men protested in Aguascalientes, filmed by JLM Noticias. (14) Three actions on Mexico City’s protest agenda cited the day, and Niños con MaPa organized demonstrations in Toluca and Querétaro. (15)(16)(17)
  • Spain: ANAVID launched a digital campaign, questioning Spain’s official 0.01% false-complaint figure. (1)(18)(19)
  • United Kingdom: Supporters gathered outside the Royal Courts of Justice in London and the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh, both 2 to 4 p.m. (20) Crabtree reported from Edinburgh during the gathering. (21) In London, Sean Bw Parker of Empowering The Innocent spoke on Magnolia Graffiti, his memoir of maintaining innocence after an eight-and-a-half-year sentence in 2018. (22)(23)
  • United States: Advocates For the Falsely Accused broadcast a program of one hour and 40 minutes, hosted by president Dawn Wolfson. (24)(25) Women Against Paternity Fraud published its own observance, quoting co-founder Dianna Thompson on accusations used to gain advantage in custody cases. (26)
  • Uruguay: Colectivo Masculino called supporters to the Torre Ejecutiva in Montevideo at 1 p.m. (27)

Senator Carolina Losada’s bill in Argentina would set one to three years in prison for a deliberately false accusation, and up to six years in aggravated cases. (4) Paraguay’s Senate approved a separate bill on September 9 setting penalties of up to six years and sent it to Deputies. (28)

ICMB asks:

  • News organizations: Report what a deliberate false accusation costs in work, reputation and a parent’s time with a child.
  • Lawmakers: Enact penalties that deter deliberate false accusations. Enforce the statutes already on the books. Match the punishment to the harm the accuser set out to cause.
