The UN Will Never Achieve International Peace Until it Recognizes Gender Equality for Men
January 28, 2026 — In remarks delivered this week to the UN Security Council, Secretary-General António Guterres called on nations to recommit to the rule of law and to the promises of the UN Charter as the foundation of global peace. (1)
But the United Nations cannot credibly champion these promises while its modern gender agenda treats “gender equality” solely within a female framework ignoring the Charter’s explicit pledge to uphold the “equal rights of men and women.” (2)
12 areas of male disadvantage deserve serious, transparent recognition in global policy: education, health, child labor, false allegations, victims of violence, shared parenting, harsh treatment by the criminal system, partner abuse, homelessness, workplace injuries and deaths, reproductive and adoption rights, and negative media portrayals. (3)
These disparities do not diminish the needs of women and girls; they demonstrate that an effective equality framework must address disadvantage wherever it exists.
A glaring omission in the UN gender framework is a dedicated body focused on men and boys—to complement UN Women. The absence of such a mechanism systematically leaves male disadvantage unaddressed. (4)
Similarly, the UN’s Pact for the Future’s gender commitments largely emphasize women and girls, while failing to acknowledge the well-documented disparities affecting men and boys. (5)
In domestic-violence policy, UN campaigns and guidance frequently default to female-only victim narratives, and policy is built around a one-directional model of harm. This marginalizes and excludes male victims. (6)
ICMB calls on UN leaders and Member States to align gender policy with the Charter’s plain meaning and intent: acknowledge male disadvantage, address it openly, and implement balanced approaches that uphold equal rights in practice.
As Secretary-General Guterres urges Member States to “live up to the promises and obligations enshrined in the Charter,” those words will remain hollow unless the UN backs that pledge with a gender-balanced policy that addresses male disadvantage.
The International Council for Men and Boys is a non-governmental organization that is working to end the 12 sex disparities that affect men and boys around the world. The ICMB is a leader of the emerging global movement to address the 12 areas of male disadvantage. Achieving #GenderEqualityForMen will also benefit women. https://www.menandboys.net/
