On a Roll: Men’s Health Gains Momentum in Canada, the UK, and the US

January 14, 2026 — Men’s health, long treated as a secondary concern by policy-makers, is moving toward the center of the national health agendas in Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Canada: In December 2025, it was announced that the federal government is preparing a national strategy on men’s and boys’ health to be released in 2026. Release of the strategy follows years of advocacy and ongoing federal–provincial discussions about gaps affecting men’s access to care (1). The initiative will focus on practical reforms—especially in areas such as mental health, addictions, and prevention—to address barriers that often delay or deter help-seeking among men and boys.

United Kingdom: In November 2025, the UK government announced England’s first Men’s Health Strategy, intended to reduce preventable male deaths and strengthen prevention, earlier intervention, and access to care (2)(3). The announcement also included £3.6 million over three years for suicide-prevention projects focused on middle-aged men in communities at greatest risk.

United States: In June 2025, U.S. Senators Raphael Warnock, Roger Marshall, and Ruben Gallego introduced the bipartisan Dads Matter Act of 2025, directing the Department of Health and Human Services to promote father engagement through public education and guidance intended to improve outcomes during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period (4).

Canada, the UK, and the US join six other countries and regions that already have national/regional policies for Men’s Health:  World Health Organization – European Region, AustraliaBrazilIrelandMalaysia, and South Africa (5).

These initiatives reflect a shared recognition: improving men’s health requires public leadership, measurable goals, and reforms that reach men earlier—before preventable problems become irreversible.

ICMB urges media outlets to cover these developments with balance and urgency, and calls on lawmakers to adopt evidence-based men’s health strategies, including targeted suicide prevention and father-inclusive family health reforms.

The International Council for Men and Boys is a non-governmental organization that works to celebrate men’s contributions to society and to end the twelve sex disparities that affect men and boys around the world. Achieving #GenderEqualityForMen will also benefit women. https://www.menandboys.net/
